Dear Friends, 

Los Altos Auxiliary has supported at-risk youth in both the foster care and mental-health systems for over 67 years. This year, as in years past, we are dedicated to spreading holiday cheer to the youth and young adults at Sycamores’ El Nido residential campus and in Sycamores’ Transition Age Youth Program. The El Nido group residential campus in Altadena is a welcoming environment that offers intervention and care for dependent or neglected youth ages 11–18. The Transition Age Youth Program assists young adults, ages 18–26, who are transitioning out of the foster care system to lead productive and independent lives.

We hope you’ll join us in spreading holiday cheer to these youth and young adults. In many cases, these may be the only gifts that the youth receive during the holiday season. This year, we’re aspiring to provide upwards of 150 youth and young adults with holiday gifts and activities using your donations in the following ways:

  • Gifts for the El Nido Youth.  For Christmas, the youth will receive five presents from their personalized gift list (totaling $250), a stocking, and a $50 Target gift card. On their birthdays, each child will receive a $50 Target gift card along with cupcakes lovingly baked by our members.

  • Gifts for Transition Age Youth.  The approximately 130 young adults in this program will receive a small present and a $50 Target gift card, allowing them the autonomy to purchase what they need.

  • Holiday Activities.  Throughout the fall and winter season, Los Altos plans to support holiday fun through events like Thanksgiving dinner for the youth and their families at El Nido, cookie-decorating parties with caroling, a snow day, and off-campus activities over winter break.

100% of your contributions will be used to benefit the children living at El Nido and the young adults participating in the Transition Age Youth Program. If our supporters’ generosity goes beyond what is needed to fulfill these holiday wishes, any additional proceeds will be used to provide continued social and therapeutic activities throughout the new year.
